Harvey’s Word Add-In is now powered by an Agent that has more powerful planning, reasoning, and reviewing capabilities.

Harvey’s Word Add-In is now powered by an Agent that has more powerful planning, reasoning, and reviewing capabilities. You can expect:
- Unified editing experience: Combines Ask, Draft, and Edit into a single agent that selects the right workflow automatically
- Action-based planning: Generates a customized, step-by-step plan for each request, rather than isolated suggestions
- Higher-quality edits: Produces more precise changes, stronger summaries, and clearer explanations based on better intent understanding
- Improved handling of complex documents: Performs more reliably on long or complex files, with better failure handling
- Reduced manual steps: Eliminates mode switching and manual toggles to streamline everyday drafting and editing
Why It Matters
Agentic Word enables higher quality edits and stronger explanations as you review, edit, and refine documents. It can handle complex, multi-step requests and adapt as the document evolves, making the editing process more intuitive and collaborative.
How to Use
This update does not require any changes to your workflow. Instead of choosing between Auto, Ask, Draft, or Edit, Harvey's Word Add-in will automatically determine the right approach and builds a step-by-step action plan tailored to the document and task at hand.
Note: You may experience a slower response on your first prompt as Harvey familiarizes itself with your document. Follow-up prompts in the same thread typically yield faster responses.
Notes and Limitations
Document Size Limits
- Up to 1 million characters in the desktop app
- Up to 300,000 characters in Word Online
Editing
- Avoid making changes while Harvey is working on a response. Editing during the Harvey's “thinking” state can cause errors.
- Editing headers, footers, table of contents, and textboxes is not yet supported.
FAQs
Q: How is Agentic Word different from Auto mode?
Agentic Word is a more advanced replacement for Auto mode. Instead of offering isolated suggestions, it builds and executes a structured action plan based on your request, adapting across drafting, editing, and analysis as needed.
Q: Do I still need to choose between Ask, Draft, and Edit?
No. Agentic Word automatically determines the best approach for your request and transitions between workflows without requiring manual selection.
Q: Why can’t I access my prior suggestions in Word?
Suggestions are available for your last 2-3 interactions/threads. If you return to an earlier thread from your history, you'll need to regenerate the suggestions.
Q: What formatting improvements are still being made in Harvey for Word?
Harvey for Word currently focuses on generating high-quality content. We're adding comprehensive formatting support in Q1 so Harvey can handle:
- Bulleted or numbered lists (matching list formatting with text insertions)
- Matching indentations of existing text
- Inserting or editing a table (adding rows or columns)
- Editing headers or footers
- Editing table of contents or text boxes
- Inserting, editing, or replying comments
- Bolding, italicizing, underlining, or striking through text
- Editing lists inside tables or nested tables
- Editing or inserting footnotes
